2009 Faculty of Education HSS Seed Grant

Funding for the Faculty of Education HSS Seed Grant is made available through the annual SSHRC Institutional Grant, and is specifically designed to promote research in the Humanities and Social Sciences. The primary goal of the Faculty of Education HSS Seed Grant is to support high-quality research in the social sciences and humanities by providing small funds that will aid in the early-stage development of an external (to UBC) research funding application. Funds may be used to develop grant proposals by supporting pilot research, networking activities or field/library research that will strengthen the target application.

The funds are open to both newer and more established faculty and collaborations between newer and more established faculty, as well as those between faculty from across disciplinary boundaries, are encouraged. Note that the Faculty of Education HSS Seed Grant is also designed to support research training opportunities for graduate students. Applications that make a provision for such training will be given higher priority. Priority will also be given to applicants who play a key leadership role in the target project. The grant is not designed to complete, or to supplement, Tri- Council or other funded projects.

A committee will consider proposals with a range of values, from smaller requests for a few hundred dollars, to larger requests up to $7,000. The term of the award is 16 months, starting Aug. 1, 2009 to Nov. 30, 2010.

The application deadline is 4:00 p.m., Monday June 22, 2009. Applications must be submitted to the Office of Graduate Programs and Research.

For more information on this funding opportunity, please contact the Faculty's Research Development and Grants Facilitator, Robert Olaj, at 604-822-0580 or robert.olaj@ubc.ca
