Maximum Time for Program Completion


Master's students at UBC have 5 years to finish their degrees, with the possibility of extension to 6 years. The MET degree requires 10 courses of 3 credits each to complete the program. Master's students taking longer than five years to finish their degrees are required to withdraw from their programs, unless they apply in advance for a 1-year program extension (extension fees apply).

Doctoral students at UBC are required to finish their program within 6 years, with a possibility to extend their studies for a 7th year. Doctoral students taking longer than six years to finish their degrees are required to withdraw from their programs, unless they apply in advance for a 1-year program extension (extension fees apply).
