Full-time vs. Part-time Status

All newly admitted graduate students are automatically assessed the Schedule A (full-time) fee payment schedule. Students who are planning on taking a Master's degree on a part-time basis must obtain approval of their unit's Graduate Advisor and the Faculty of Graduate Studies prior to the beginning of the first term of the program (i.e. prior to the commencement of the degree program) in which fees are first assessed. The form for switching from Schedule A to Schedule B status is located on the Faculty of Graduate Studies' Faculty of Graduate Studies' Forms for Students web page.

In addition, students who pay tuition fees according to Schedule B are not permitted to revert back to Schedule A after the initial payment of the tuition fees in the first term of the program.

While Master's students have the option of switching from the full-time to the part-time tuition fee payment schedule, there is no part-time option for Doctoral students. Doctoral students are only assessed the full-time fee payment schedule.

Finally, only students on the full-time fee payment schedule are eligible for University awards and scholarships.
