Policies and Procedures Governing Graduate Study

The Faculty of Graduate Studies (FoGS) is the body on campus which governs the administrative policies and procedures of graduate studies at UBC. All graduate students are encouraged to review the Graduate Studies Policies and Procedures Manual, available at the FoGS web site.

Doctoral students in particular are advised to learn about the following key components of their graduate program:

Comprehensive Exams
Doctoral Oral Exams
Thesis Preparation / Submission
Admission to Candidacy
External Examiner

Application for Graduation (through UBC Enrollment Services)

Graduate students are also encouraged to review the Handbook of Graduate Supervision, also available at the Faculty of Graduate Studies web site. This document will help you get the most out of the supervisor-graduate student relationship at UBC. It provides in-depth advice on roles and responsibilities, communications, learning styles, time management, and many other issues.
