UBC Graduate Student Teaching Assistant Teaching
Award
In recognition of the valuable role that teaching assistants play in our programs, the University annually awards teaching prizes to UBC Teaching Assistants, with two of these awards being allocated to the Facultyof Education. The prize includes both a certificate and $1,000.00. At the same time, in recognition of the contribution to our Faculty of so many outstanding Teaching Assistants, the Facultyof Education annually awards an additional teaching prize to supplement those awarded at the University level.
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2008-2009 Graduate Teaching Assistant Teaching Awards. Please visit the VP Academic & Provost's Graduate
Student Teaching Assistant Teaching Award web page for information
on eligibility, procedures, supporting documentation and criteria.
Please note: The nomination submission guidelines on the VP Academic
& Provost web site describe two different sets of support documentation
for the dossier - "Required" and "Suggested".
In order that all Education nominations are adjudicated equitably at the
Faculty level, Education dossiers must contain the "Required"
support materials only. Dossiers that contain any of the "Suggested"
support materials will have those materials removed prior to adjudication.
Also, in addition to the "required" documentation, applicants
should include a one-page personal statement outlining why they are an
excellent candidate for the award, keeping in mind the "Effective
Teaching Criteria" outlined in the Call for Nominations (see also
http://www.vpacademic.ubc.ca/awards/gradta/criteria.htm).
The "required" documentation for the 2008-09 Graduate TA Teaching
Award competition includes "formal feedback from students, colleagues,
supervisors." To help fulfill this requirement, nominees should include
in their dossiers student evaluation data, also known as SCET scores.
