Research Centres in the Faculty of Education

The Faculty's structure includes a number of research centres, most of which are assembled within a Network of Centres and Institutes in Education. The Network as an organizational structure provides administrative support to its centres, as well as assistance with the planning and offering of events, workshops, conferences, or other activities sponsored its various centres. In general, centres within the Faculty act as research hubs, inviting faculty, other scholars, and graduate students to participate in rich and dynamic dialogue and research around particular themes.

Below is a list of research centres in the Faculty of Education along with a short description and a link to their website.

Centre for Culture, Identity, and Education
CCIE is a cultural studes research centre that focuses on exploring various facets of and developments in the comprehensive issue of identity and its educational implications in local and international cultural contexts. Website to be announced. Director Handel Wright.

Centre for Cross-Faculty Inquiry in Education
CCFI draws together Education faculty members and students to address issues of common concern from multiple disciplinary perspectives.

Centre for Intercultural Language Studies
CILS is a cross-campus facility for research, outreach, and collaboration on issues broadly connected to language, culture, and education.

Centre for Policy Studies in Higher Education and Training
CHET conducts policy-oriented research in education, disseminates research to general and academic audiences, and provides an interdisciplinary academic environment for graduate students.

Centre for the Study of Historical Consciousness
CSHC fosters research networks that link history education, historiography, collective memory, and historical consciousness.

Centre for the Study of Teacher Education
CSTE was founded to conduct programmatic research in pre service teacher preparation and teacher development. It focuses on researching teaching practices, teacher learning, and collaborative inquiry.

Centre for the Internatioalization of Curriculum Studies
CSICS supports scholars' efforts to understand their local and global circumstances, the relations among these intersecting domains, and how their scholarship supports the intellectual advancement of their nationally distinctive fields. Website to be announced. Director Wiliam Pinar.

Edudata Canada
Edudata Canada's mandate is to develop user-friendly research databases of educational data. Edudata works with researchers to facilitate access to information about public education.

Institute for Early Childhood Education and Research
IECER is an interdisciplinary unit that promotes dialogue around professional development, research, and policy in the area of early childhood development and education.

Network of Centres and Institutes in Education
NCIE provides administrative support for eight of the Faculty's research centres and provides a place where faculty and graduate students can discuss shared research interests.

Psychoeducational Research and Training Centre
PRTC provides training for school psychologists, counsellors, and learning assistance teachers. It also provides service and leadership for the community through workshops, self-study groups, and the PRTC hotline, an information service for school professionals.

School Leadership Centre
SLC studies and develops school leadership by engaging scholars and educational leaders in research, reflection, and dialogue about critical educational issues.
